Joining my family’s business back in 2010, I spent a lot of time going through CVs. We were looking to hire different people across various businesses from hospitality to manufacturing and exports. Most CVs I read however, said very little about a candidate’s core skills, achievements, or contributions they had made to previous employers.



Seeing an opportunity to help people write better CVs, I began a small side hustle called CV Genie initially writing for family and friends, and then for clients acquired via referrals and social media. This was all pre-AI, so I wrote these CVs from scratch (it helped that I enjoyed writing), but everything changed with the advent of AI and the release of ChatGPT in November 2022.



With AI, I was able to hard-code the lessons I had learnt over a decade of writing CVs manually into a series of prompts to guide the output of AI into exactly what I (and other employers) wanted to see on a CV.
